Hilltopper Men's Golf is Runner-Up at UC Invitational
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team took runner-up honors here Tuesday as the University of Charleston Invitational concluded its two-day run at Berry Hills Country Club.
Coach Thadd Obecny's Hilltoppers entered Tuesday's final round just two shots off the lead of host Charleston but couldn't mount a successful charge down the stretch in what was basically a two-team race.
The Golden Eagles posted a 36-hole score of 599 with WLU their closest pursuer at 612. Davis & Elkins (623), Millersville (625) and Mercyhurst (626) rounded out the top five.
Howard Peterson IV and Alex Easthom each checked in with Top 10 finishes for the Hilltoppers. Peterson finished sixth at 10-over-par 150 while Easthom was ninth, two shots further back at 152.
Davis & Elkins' Jordan Hyland defeated UC's Mitch Hoffman in a playoff for medal honors after they finished the 36 holes deadlocked at 8-over-par 148.
