BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University All-Region senior Alex Easthom was honored on Wednesday as the Mountain East Conference Men’s Golf Player of the Week after leading the Hilltoppers to a top tier finish in a talent-laden West Liberty Invitational.
Fresh from receiving his second consecutive MEC Player of the Year Award a week ago, Easthom wasn’t resting on his laurels when West Liberty hosted the West Liberty Invitational at Oglebay Resort’s Palmer Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Playing against a loaded field featuring a pair of nationally-ranked squads and the defending NCAA Division II medal champion, Easthom strung together three consecutive sub-par rounds to earn a Top 5 finish with a 54-hole score of 8-under-par 205. With Easthom leading the way, West Liberty moved up two places on Tuesday to finish third, posting a team score of even-par 852. That was the lowest team score for any Mountain East Conference or Atlantic Region squad in the tournament.
Easthom and the Hilltoppers will be back in action this weekend when they head to Rochester, N.Y. to compete in the NCAA Division II Regional Preview tournament, hosted by Le Moyne (N.Y.).
