West Liberty's Helmke is MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University baseball standout Ty Helmke was honored on Monday as the Mountain East Conference’s Player of the Week.

   The 6-1, 170-pound sophomore from Johnstown, Ohio posted a .400 batting average with an .800 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base average as the surging Hilltoppers went 3-1 on the week. Helmke drove in three runs and scored four more for Coach Eric Burkle’s fast-rising squad.

   It continued a hot streak for the hard-hitting outfielder who was hitting .571 with a .929 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base average over his last six games heading into Monday’s home doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan.
