Tough Loss for WLU Women's Soccer

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The West Liberty University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday in a Mountain East Conference North Division match at Mueller Field.

The division-leading Falcons (4-2-1) got an unassisted goal from Ellie Gess in the 60th minute to snap a 1-1 tie and Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-3-2) were unable to equalize before full time.

Notre Dame drew first blood with an unassisted goal from Michelle Escobar in the 15th minute and carried that 1-0 lead into intermission.

West Liberty evened the count in the 57th minute when Kaelyn Oskin finished off an assist from Anne Williams but the deadlock proved short-lived, coming less than four minutes before Gess delivered what proved to be the game-winner for the hosts.

The Falcons controlled the run of play for the majority of the match, outshooting the Black and Gold by a 19-4 margin and forcing 8 corner kicks to just one from West Liberty.

Olivia Montgomery had 6 saves in net for the Hilltoppers while Notre Dame keeper Jordan Pasalasqua got the win without making a single save. Oskin's goal was WLU's only shot on frame for the afternoon.

The West Liberty women close out their home schedule on Monday with a 5:30 p.m. match against the University of Charleston at the West Family Athletic Complex.
