WHEELING, W.Va. (April 10) - The Wheeling University baseball team earned a pair of wins over Fairmont State to open their four-game series with the Falcons Saturday afternoon at the JB Chambers Complex

The Cardinals took game one 7-4, before holding on for a 3-2 win in game two.

With the score tied at 4-4, the Cardinals got a sacrifice fly from second baseman Anthony May to take the lead, before a two-RBI double by shortstop Connor Watt gave Wheeling some breathing room in the sixth.

Relief pitcher Hayden Scudder picked up the win with a scoreless fifth inning of work, and closer Albert Baez earned his fifth save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.

In game two, the Cardinals took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI-double by designated hitter Chris Iazzetta. Fairmont State managed to score once in the seventh inning, but reliever Nick Luciano stranded the tying run at second base with a strike out and a ground out to preserve the 3-2 win and earn the save.

Starting pitcher Logan Pillars went six innings and limited the Falcons to one run on six hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.

The Cardinals and Falcons will play two more tomorrow, Sunday, April 11 at the JB Chambers Complex beginning at 1 p.m
