WARREN, Ohio – Kailey Pettit and Alexis Ramby led the way for the West Liberty University women's golf team here Tuesday as the 2021 Mountain East Conference Championships teed off at a cold and windy Avalon Lakes Golf Course.

Pettit finished the opening round tied for 11th place at 16-over-par 88 while Ramby was four shots back at 20-over-par 92. West Virginia Wesleyan's Kiana Toole was the only woman to break 80 in the challenging conditions. A 7-over-par 79 gave her a two-shot lead over the rest of the field.

Charleston and Wesleyan were locked in a two-way battle for the top in the team standings after the first 18 holes. The Golden Eagles checked in at 338 with the Bobcats right behind at 341. Wheeling was third with a team score of 351.

Wednesday's second round is in jeopardy due to the weather as accumulating snow is forecast for northeast Ohio overnight with daytime temperatures on Wednesday not expected to get out of the 30s.

The 54-hole event is scheduled to conclude on Thursday.
