MEC Player of the Week Honors for WLU's Diven

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University quarterback Jamie Diven has been honored as the Mountain East Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Hilltoppers to a wild 52-31 Homecoming victory against Fairmont State on Saturday.

A 6-2, 190-pound redshirt freshman from South Fayette (Pa.) High School, Diven completed 19-of-25 passes on the day for a career-high 367 yards with touchdown tosses of 18, 46 and 77 yards.

Diven capped his impressive afternoon by leading West Liberty on a game-winning touchdown drive.

After Fairmont had scored to take a 31-30 lead, a penalty on the ensuing kickoff left Diven and the WLU offense in a deep hole at the West Liberty 4-yard-line with only 2:22 showing on the fourth quarter clock.

The cool-handed southpaw didn’t even blink, leading the Black and Gold on a brisk 6-play, 96-yard scoring march capped by a thread-the-needle 46-yard TD pass to Isaiah Robinson with less than a minute to play. Diven accounted for every yards on the drive with two runs and four pass completions and even tacked on a two-point conversion pass to Robinson for a 38-31 WLU lead with 54 seconds left.

West Liberty returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the final minute to account for the lop-sided final score.

Only one game out of first place with a 4-2 record in the Mountain East Conference, Diven and the Hilltoppers make the short trek down Route 88 on Saturday to take on Ohio County rival Wheeling in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
