Strong Second Quarter Powers Women's Basketball Past Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's basketball team used a strong second quarter to power its way to a conference road win, 81-68, over Davis & Elkins this afternoon.

The Hilltoppers improve to 4-0 in Mountain East Conference play and 5-2 overall, while dropping the Senators to 1-7 and 1-3 in conference.

After a back-and-forth battle in the opening 10 minutes, West Liberty outscored the hosts 28-9 in the second quarter to take control of the contest. The Hilltoppers hit three early three pointers on the way to a 15-1 run to start the second frame. Arriana Manzay scored five straight points to put West Liberty ahead by 21 at the 1:46 mark, the largest lead of the game and one they took into the halftime break.

The Senators tried to chip away in the second half, but the Hilltoppers never let it get back within double digits cruising to victory.

Karly McCutcheon recorded her first career double-double rewriting three career-high's with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and eight three pointers. 

Manzay was back at it down low scoring 30 points and pulling in nine rebounds, while also swiping two steals and recording a block.

 

Sophomore guard Anna Lucarelli dished out a career-high 7 assists at point guard for the Black and Gold.

West Liberty outshot D&E 11-to-3 from beyond the arc to offset a 50-30 disadvantage in the paint.

The Hilltoppers will be on the road again on Wednesday, as they head to Charleston to take on the Golden Eagles at 5:30 pm.
