Trump knocks California on its heels

Jay Weber Show transcript 6-17-25

I love this headline because it’s the perfect example of left-wing spin and short-term memory loss by their accomplice media.

It’s from Politico: Trump knocks California on its heels. He’s pulling the trigger on everything all at once.

That’s the headline on a story that then, fits it perfectly: it details how California’s good and wonderful trump haters…are getting pummeled by his moves…and feeling outmatched in this fight.

What’s wrong with the headline?

Why is it a good example of leftist-spin and short-term memory?

Folks- seven months ago- right after President Trump won re-election- these very same democrats spent November and December vowing to ‘take the war to trump’ in his second term. Remember?

It was Gavin Newsom. California’s attorney general. US congressmen like Adam Schiff. Virtually everyone in the California state house.

They were all saying: California is going to be a bulwark against trump’s agenda. They even went so far as to approve tens of millions of dollars in state funding-for the legal fees they would use to sue trump. Fight trump. Block trump.

Remember?

No one seems to remember now, 8 months later, that these idiots were strutting and peacocking and -even though they are state leaders and -it’s not their job to ‘fight the feds’ or ‘fight one person they don’t like’.... they decided this was their task over the next four years: we got to fight and ruin Trump.

In a move that I’ve never seen before-over my 30-some years of doing this- California’s legislature, attorney general, and governor decided to actually add a line-item in their state budget: they literally added ‘Trump fighting’ money’.

They set aside something like 25-million dollars so they could launch legal wars against trump and his white house…and literally told anyone who would listen: we are studying project 2025. We are getting lawyers lined up. Etc.

I don’t know about you, but I’d call that a declaration of war.

I’d suggest that president trump and his team-knew-coming into office that the same leaders of California and New York-who fought him in term one…were, by God, determined to fight him in term two.

I’d suggest that trump and his team knew the attorney generals and leaders of these states were going to be…. let’s say….’reluctant’ to adopt the trump agenda.

And so, what would you do, if you were in trump’s shoes?

What would your directions be to your new white house team?

California has declared war…so…let’s give em’ a war.  Yes?

Fast forward six months into the term…and California has already filed 26 lawsuits against the trump administration…and is whining to politico about how overwhelmed they are.

Well, then, don’t fight Trump’s agenda. Or at least be smarter about the fights you are choosing.

This is a highly amusing Politico story-and it’s pages long.

Trump knocks California on its heels: ‘He’s pulling the trigger on everything all at once.’

In years of conflict with Trump, California has never seen anything like this.

They list three ‘terrible things’- so let’s knock them down one by one:

Offense number one- trump sent in ice agents to LA. That’s called ‘enforcing the law’ and ‘carrying out the will of the people who elected him’. It’s not negative.

Second- gutting climate standards. They are referring to the republican congress killing off the bullying EV mandate that we all get forced into electric cars by 2035. It, too, was keeping a campaign promise- and it stopped California and about 10 other states from bullying the rest of us and deciding-for us- the type of cars we can drive in the future. Again, a good thing.

Third: manhandled a US Senator.

That was entirely senator Padilla’s doing. He was the grandstanding and insisted on making a scene. It was the left’s latest ‘theatre kid’ stunt, and trump had nothing to do with it.

So-the story is predicated on trump following thru on his agenda- and California’s leaders hating it. Too bad, so sad.

California lawmakers are trying to preserve rules that -they-bullied into place years ago.

What is their ‘sanctuary city’s status, other than an attempt to be difficult and refuse to follow federal law?

Why are they encouraging protests and violent riots in their own community? Supporting lawlessness?

Why are they refusing to follow civil rights law on boys in girls’ sports?

I understand that they and some of their constituents don’t-like- some of the federal changes that president trump has made…but we in red states have often hated the federal changes that Presidents Obama and Biden have made. And did we riot in the streets? Or send republican lawmakers to act like thugs and theatre kids to ‘make scenes?

No.

We followed the rules and worked within the process to stop them and block them. Often, unsuccessfully.

and so, California’s tantrum aside, there is nothing new or unprecedented about the change’s President Trump is making-as a duly elected president who won by a sizable margin and a clear mandate.

I cannot stress enough that- this is how it has always worked: it’s why we hold elections and fight for our values and our policies: because we want to control the direction of the country…as people with differing opinions. And whoever wins- wins. Sets the agenda for the next four to eight years.

This is how it has always worked. The only historical difference with Trump is he and his people had a four-year pause- away from the White House- to plan and plot-and really think about what they were going to do differently in ‘term two’ and how they were going to do it.

It turned out to be a huge advantage, really: doing this for four years- fighting democrats and their activists and lawyers every step of the way…then losing and regrouping…to come back stronger.

Yes, president trump’s team is at the top of its game and their agenda has been planned- so every ‘trap’ can be sprung simultaneously. And so far, it has been a brilliant way to approach governing.

Don’t think the democrats aren’t learning from this…and hoping to counteract trump’s final term with their own explosive ‘all at once’ agenda if they retake control of the administration in 2028.

But let’s not pretend that trump is really ‘being a king’ or ‘bullying California’ in any unique way.

This ‘war’ on Cali, to the extent that it’s happening, is ‘their war’. Their leaders are the ones who brought it on.

It’s not trump’s fault that they announced their war plans of time and boasted about it, loudly.

That’s their mistake. Trump and his team were simply smart to plan for it and counteract it.

The overall premise of the article is that ‘trump intended to bring war to California’.

No. He intended to implement a clear agenda across all 50 states. Only California, New York, and a few other blue states saw that as ‘war’.

California’s eco-zealots have been bullying the other 49 states for decades. Forcing their extremist nonsense down our throats. Now that they are getting push back

Consider the number of states that the Trump administration is actually ‘at war with’...because the leaders of those states have decided to come unhinged and ‘push back’...with legal and rhetorical fire.

That list is- genuinely: California, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, maybe Maryland….and?

And what other ‘blue state’ has really decided to go to war with trump?

There are about 13 to 15 true blue states, overall. That’s about it. Only three or four have decided to go ‘full on activist’ against trump’s agenda…and a few more…like Minnesota and Illinois…are ‘upset about it’...but not doing much.

That’s it.

This is-not- a president or a presidential administration who is ‘at war’ with the American people.

It’s an administration who is ‘at war’ with the smallish and bitter group of people on the left who have been trying to destroy Donald Trump since he came down the escalator at trump tower in 2015-and announced he was running for president.

The story even rubs dirt into Gavin Newsom’s eyes- by saying: he thought he had a court victory last week when a federal judge ruled trump couldn't' call out the national guard…but…oop. That judge was overruled by an appeals court within hours.

Fantastic.

Yes- Gavin Newsom got to crow for about an hour…before an appeals court slapped him across the face, again.

It was another fun moment in a string of moments that I- and huge numbers of Americans-have been enjoying since November fifth.

Ugh. This was fun. Hasn’t it?

And it’s stories like this that bring me joy, after seeing the country wallow thru the craptacular presidencies of Barrack Obama and Joe Biden.

Politico’s reporter waits until the final two pages before giving the republican side of the argument…but eventually get around to this:

It’d be great if California voters would start ‘voting differently’.... but with a hollowed out middle class now- California is full of rich elites and a flood of lower-class Californians and illegal aliens who are on the government dole…and whose interest is to keep voting for more handouts and big govt control.
