The NFL Has Gotten Too Smart and Advanced For Jerry Jones

Colin Cowherd: “This was the worst home loss of Jerry Jones’ career on his 82nd birthday... That’s saying a lot because his first year owning the Cowboys was 1989 and they finished 1-15. They may be shrewd doing business off the field but they were shameful on the field. The NFL has gotten smarter over the last decade -- more good coaches, more sharp executives, and the Cowboys along that same timeline have become much more insular. They’re the only team in the league with an 82-year-old GM, and he’s not firing Mike McCarthy.
The Lions were everything the Cowboys want to be. Deep, tough, clever, fun, capable at quarterbacks, no one is massively overpaid. The Lions o-line had two touches and a target. And I’m not talking about falling on a fumble. This was intentional. The Lions tried to embarrass the Cowboys. They were messing around and flexing for the TV audience. What you were watching was embarrassing.
I can’t take a team seriously with an 82-year-old owner/GM. Too many Joneses in the front office. You need outside influences and voices. They’re not a Super Bowl team and they’re not close to it. The truth is -- ‘OH, THEY WON 12 GAMES!’ -- the last two years previous to this one, the NFC had been down. It was there for the taking the last two years in the NFC. The Rams were re-building, the Packers and Lions were too young, Chicago didn’t have Caleb Williams, Minnesota was trying to draft a quarterback, the Niners hadn’t found Brock Purdy... Now the NFC at the top can play with the AFC.
The more Jerry dabbles in football the sadder January becomes for Dallas. You can’t be an owner/GM. That’s just not the way it works. Jerry is running the franchise the way he wants to, not the way it should be run. The way it should be run is like in San Francisco where you can find Brock Purdy with the last pick, or like in Philadelphia where they have a loaded roster but always have money to spend. Baltimore always has so many good players, where they can move off great ones and the next year they’re just fine.
Dak got the bag and Cowboys fans are left holding it.”

Listen to Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd rip the Cowboys for their humiliating 47-9 loss to the Lions on Sunday afternoon, as Colin mocks Jerry Jones for commandeering one of the most embarrassing teams in the league.

Check out the segment above as Colin details why the modern NFL has left Jerry in the dust, saying the game has gotten too ‘smart’ for an out-of-touch and oblivious 82-year-old trying to masquerade as the leading voice of a franchise.
