Charles Barkley Says It's 'Disrespectful' to Compare Zion Williamson to Him

Dan Patrick: “I was watching ESPN and they said Zion Williamson was a hybrid of you and Dominique Wilkins. What do you think of that comparison?”
Charles Barkley: “It’s not fair to compare him to me. He’s not as good as I was in my heyday. He’s really talented but hasn’t played in an official NBA game yet. Dominique is in the Hall of Fame, also. I love the kid and wish him nothing but the best, but it’s disrespectful to say he’s me already. I’m in the Hall of Fame and was a hell of a player… We don’t have a Clemson or NC State in the NBA.”

Listen to Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley join The Dan Patrick Show to explain why he thinks it’s disrespectful to hear comparisons between himself and New Orleans Pelicans rookie phenom Zion Williamson.

Barkley is arguably the greatest power forward in league history, and draws clear parallels with Zion given their short stature, but bulky frames that are explosive and lightning fast in the blocks.

Barkley is often known for his comical antics on TNT's 'Inside the NBA' basketball show, but in the 80's and 90's he was one of the NBA's best scorers.

Barkley has a legitimate claim right up there with Dennis Rodman, as the best rebounder ever, and was a former MVP that had one of the most complete post games ever. For that reason, Barkley finds it disparaging to be an 11-time All-Star having to be compared to a teenager who has never even appeared in an official NBA game.
