All-MEC Honors for Lady Hilltopper Tandem

WARREN, Ohio – The West Liberty University duo of Kailey Pettit and Alexis Ramby finished strong here Thursday to post Top 10 finishes and earn Second Team All-Mountain East Conference honors in the weather-marred MEC Women’s Golf Tournament at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.

The scheduled 54-hole event was shortened to 36 holes after Wednesday’s second round was snowed out. Thursday’s final 18 holes were played in sub-freezing wind chills with the start delayed until the afternoon but Pettit and Ramby rose to the challenge.

Pettit, a returning All-MEC junior from Moundsville, W.Va., backed up her first-round 88 with an 86 in Thursday’s challenging conditions to finish in a multi-player tie for 8th place at 30-over-par 174.

Ramby, a true freshman from Lebanon, Ohio, bounced back from her opening round 92 with a 10-over-par 82 to join Pettit in that 8th-place tie at 174. Her 10-over-par 82 on Thursday was the third-lowest round of the day.

Charleston held off West Virginia Wesleyan to win the team championship. West Virginia Wesleyan freshman Kiana Toole ran away to a 10-shot victory in the medal chase to sweep MEC Freshman of the Year and MEC Player of the Year honors. Charleston’s Will Johnson was voted Coach of the Year.
