Blomquist Earns NCBWA Regional Honor

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – West Liberty University senior Tyler Blomquist has been selected as the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Blomquist, a 5-7 right-hander from St. Clairsville, Ohio who was honored on Monday as the Mountain East Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, threw a complete-game no-hitter in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at Fairmont State to clinch a Mountain East Conference Tournament berth for Coach Eric Burkle’s Hilltoppers.

It was the first road no-hitter for a WLU hurler in more than three decades and Blomquist finished it off with a flourish, striking out the last two batters in the bottom of the seventh to complete the 6-0 victory. The Hilltopper veteran finished with a career-high 10 strikeouts as the Black and Gold took over sole possession of second place in the Mountain East Conference North Division.

West Liberty closes out the home portion of its schedule on Friday with a 1 p.m. Senior Day doubleheader against MEC North Division-leading Wheeling at Kovalick Field.
