West Liberty Men Battle Elements in NCAA Regional

NORTH EAST, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's golf team joined the rest of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional field in fighting through challenging conditions during a soggy second round at Lake View Country Club on Friday.

Coach Thadd Obecny's Hilltoppers were the first group off the tee on Friday and head into Saturday's final round in 14th place in the team standings with a 36-hole score of 641. St. Thomas Aquinas (603) and Gannon (605) sit atop the team leaderboard.

The start of the second round was delayed by more than an hour due to overnight rains and with the winds kicking up in the afternoon, not a single player was able to shoot par or better for Friday's 18 holes. After a rough start, West Liberty's Alex Easthom shot a 6-over-par 78 for a two-day score of 8-over-par 152.

Easthom is one of six players tied for 10th place in the medal standings but is just four strokes behind second round leader Brady Erb of Millersville.

The third and final round gets under way Saturday morning. The top four teams advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships later this month.
