WLU Women Add 6-4 NCAA Division I Transfer
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty University head women's basketball coach Kyle Cooper announced today that Molly Bauer, a 6-4 senior center from NCAA Division I Fairfield (Conn.) University, has transferred to WLU and will close out her collegiate career on the hilltop during the 2021-22 season.
"The two things that come to mind in bringing Molly aboard is the impact of her size and post presence at our level of the college game," Cooper said. "Combined with a skill set that has been honed through her years of fundamental work and training will give us a consistent scoring threat on the low blocks.
"What really has us excited about Molly is the fact that she brings a much-needed veteran presence to what will be a very, very young roster. Molly is a phenomenal communicator who sees the game extremely well, giving her the ability to positively impact her teammates' growth and development on a daily basis."
A 2-time Metro Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team selection, Bauer played in 41 games during her three seasons with the Stags. Fairfield posted an 11-5 record this season, falling to NCAA Tournament-bound Marist in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament.
Bauer was a 3-time All-County selection at Connellsville (Pa.) High School, earning All-WPIAL Class 5A honors as a senior when she stuffed the stat sheets with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 blocked shots a night. Those numbers included a pair of triple-doubles, highlighted by a 21-point, 13-rebound, 11-block performance in a win against Unionville (Pa.).
"I really can't express how appreciative we are of our players and our institution for their efforts and support, not only with this signing but in continuing to build our current recruiting class,” Cooper said. “We are blessed as a staff to have the kind of players who take as much ownership in the process as we do. West Liberty is truly a special place."
The newest Lady Hilltopper is the daughter of William and Mary Bauer. An outstanding student, she is majoring in Finance and International Business.
