3rd Triple-Double for Tingle and Another WLU Win
ELKINS, W.Va. – Audrey Tingle notched her third triple-double of the season and the West Liberty University women's basketball team breezed to an 87-54 win against Davis & Elkins Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center.
The 5-6 Tingle tossed in 11 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in leading the Hilltoppers (14-5, 9-4) to their fifth straight win. The Senators (4-13, 1-11) missed 12 of their first 15 shots from the floor and never recovered.
It was all West Liberty from the opening tip. The Black and Gold carried a 21-11 lead into the second quarter against the cold-shooting hosts and never took their foot off the gas.
Tingle, who leads the nation in assists (131), triple-doubles (3) and double-doubles (14), gave WLU its first 20-point lead, 42-22, with a driving layup at 2:42 of the second quarter.
The Hilltoppers settled for a 42-27 halftime lead but had restored the 20-point margin, 64-43, by the end of the third quarter. The lop-sided final score represented their biggest lead of the night.
The senior point guard didn't lack for support from her teammates as they took sole possession of third place in the Mountain East Conference standings.
Corinne Thomas checked in with a double-double of her own, netting 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Arriana Manzay just missed with 16 points and 9 boards while Karly McCutcheon also finished with 16 points.
Bailee Smith added 10 points as all five starters once again hit double figures and Grace Faulk came off the bench for 13 points to make it six double-figure scorers.
Peyton Mohler had a game-high 18 points in a losing cause for the Senators. Marissa Berlin added a dozen points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.
The Hilltoppers won't play again until Sunday afternoon when they host West Virginia Wesleyan. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the ASRC.
