What's Happening This Weekend: Miles Davis Tribute, Live Music, Art & More

Make the most of the extra hour you get this weekend as we “fall back” from Daylight Saving Time with some fun stuff to do…

Today, it’s Miles Davis at 100: The Prelude at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington… there's a film screening of Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool is at 3pm with never-before-seen footage, including studio outtakes from his recording sessions, and new interviews. This is in honor of the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis' birth next year.

The Pigmented Black Fine Art Faire is going on through tomorrow at the Zhou B Art Center on 35th, (1029 W. 35th Street), with fine art exhibits, immersive installations, artist talks and more.

Tomorrow is the Hot Chocolate Run starting at 7:30am at Grant Park, with 5K, 10K and 15K races, plus an afterparty with hot chocolate, fondue, live music and vendors. There will also be a 2-mile walk that starts at 9am.

Tomorrow, The Music Institute of Chicago hosts their Fall Fundraiser Concert with performances from faculty, students and alumni, supporting scholarships and financial aid, at 4pm at Nichols Concert Hall in Evanston. Admission is free; donations are welcome.

Thursday, November 6th is the tribute, This Rhythm’s For You, Earl LC: A Benefit Concert to honor Earl Robinson, in memory of the original member of Public Announcement at Harold Washington Cultural Center at 7pm, featuring special performance by Public Announcement and Chicago artists.

Friday, November 7th, Kennedy-King College’s Center of Equity for Creative Arts, 740 W. 63rd Street, hosts a celebration in honor of Tonika Lewis Johnson, one of this year’s MacArthur “Genius” Fellow from 6:30-9 pm, includes a screening of her film, The Folder Map Project: The Movie, and live discussion. This event is free and you can register online. 

Tickets are on sale now for Hell’s Kitchen, the 13-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical set to iconic songs from Alicia Keys at the James M. Nederlander Theatre from November 11th through 30th.
