Cardinals move up to No. 9 in NCBWA Atlantic Region Poll
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (May 3) - The Wheeling University baseball team moved up one spot to No. 9 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Division II Atlantic Region Poll unveiled Monday.
The Cardinals (26-10, 21-7 MEC) went 5-2 last week and clinched the Mountain East Conference (MEC) North Division crown. Wheeling swept the back-end of its series with Notre Dame (Ohio) on Monday, held on for a wild 18-17 non-conference win at Indiana (Pa.) on Tuesday, and split its four-game series with Alderson Broaddus this past weekend.
Seton Hill remained at the top of the poll with all 12 first-place votes, followed by Charleston and Millersville in the top-three.
The Atlantic Region is made up of teams in the MEC, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and two independent teams (Virginia State and Bluefield State).
The NCBWA poll is a media poll and not used in determining the teams who will compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament.
The Cardinals will wrap up the regular-season with a split-series against West Liberty (18-17, 16-12 MEC) next weekend. Wheeling will travel to West Liberty on Friday, May 7 for a doubleheader, before welcoming the Hilltoppers to the JB Chambers Complex on Sunday, May 9 to conclude the series. Games on both dates are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
