Wheeling trio named NCBWA All-Atlantic Region

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (May 21) - Wheeling University third baseman Luis Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), utility player Jacob Murray (Beallsville, Ohio/Linsly) and relief pitcher Albert Baez (Fort Worth, Texas/Timber Creek) were each voted to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) All-Atlantic Region team announced the organization Friday.
Dominguez and Murray were each named first-team selections and are now eligible for NCBWA All-America consideration. The NCBWA All-America team will be announced on May 26.
Baez earned a nod on the NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Second Team.
Dominguez was a First-Team All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) selection at third base this season. He ranked second in the MEC and 39th in Division II with a .412 batting average, second in MEC and 30th nationally with a .520 on-base percentage, and seventh in the MEC with 39 runs scored to establish a new Wheeling record.
The Bronx native was also ninth in the MEC with 13 stolen bases and ended the season on a 25-game hitting streak and a streak of 29 straight games reaching base
Murray was a First-Team All-MEC Utility Player for the Cardinals this season. He ranked ninth in the MEC with a .365 batting average and 15th with both a .456 on-base percentage and 10 stolen bases.
An extremely versatile player, Murray started games at both corner infield and outfield spots and also served as the team's designated hitter at times this season when needed.
Baez earned NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors. A First Team All-MEC relief pitcher this season, Baez led the MEC and ranked 12th in Division II with seven saves and averaged over a strikeout per inning. The Texas native ranked 25th in Division II with 19 appearances, as well as third in the MEC and 64th in Division II with six wins.
Dominguez, Murray and Baez are the first NCBWA All-Atlantic Region selections since 2010. Former Cardinal and MLB Draft Pick Noah Mull earned Pitcher of the Year and first-team laurels, while outfielder Dominic San Felippo was also a second-team honoree that season.
The trio helped lead Wheeling to its first winning season in the program's 16-year history and first postseason appearance in 10 years.
