Dominguez, Baez earn ABCA All-Atlantic Region

GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 2) - Wheeling University third baseman Luis Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and relief pitcher Albert Baez (Fort Worth, Texas/Timber Creek) were each voted to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region team announced the organization Wednesday.

Dominguez was named a first-team selection and is now eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Friday, June 4. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 23.

Baez earned a nod on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team.

Dominguez was a First-Team All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) selection at third base this season and is now a "unanimous" first-team all-region honoree. He ranked second in the MEC and 39th in Division II with a .412 batting average, second in MEC and 30th nationally with a .520 on-base percentage, and seventh in the MEC with 39 runs scored to establish a new Wheeling record. Dominguez also received first-team honors from the NCBWA and the D2CCA last month.

The Bronx native was also ninth in the MEC with 13 stolen bases and ended the season on a 25-game hitting streak and a streak of 29 straight games reaching base

Baez earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors. A First Team All-MEC relief pitcher this season, Baez led the MEC and ranked 12th in Division II with seven saves and averaged over a strikeout per inning. The Texas native ranked 25th in Division II with 19 appearances, as well as third in the MEC and 64th in Division II with six wins. Baez also earned second-team honors from the NCBWA and the D2CCA.

The duo helped lead Wheeling to its first winning season in the program's 16-year history and first postseason appearance in 10 years.
