Dominguez, Murray voted CoSIDA Academic All-District

WHEELING, W.Va. (July 1) - Recent Wheeling University graduate Luis Dominguez (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and junior Jacob Murray (Beallsville, Ohio/Linsly) were each named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II Team announced the organization Thursday afternoon.

Dominguez and Murray are now eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team - considered to be the most prestigious academic award in collegiate athletics - which will be announced later this month. The duo helped lead Wheeling to its first winning season in the program's 16-year history and first postseason appearance in 10 years.

Dominguez was a unanimous First-Team All-Atlantic Region selection (D2CCA, NCBWA, & ABCA) at third base and a First-Team All-MEC honoree. He ranked second in the MEC and 39th in Division II with a .412 batting average, second in MEC and 30th nationally with a .520 on-base percentage, and seventh in the MEC with 39 runs scored to establish a new Wheeling record.

Dominguez broke the all-time Wheeling record with a .375 batting average, breaking a record previously held by former Cardinal and MLB Draft pick Noah Mull (2007-2010). Mull hit .350 during his career with the Cardinals.

In the classroom, Dominguez graduated with his degree in Exercise Science while carrying a 3.76 grade-point average. He was on the dean's list in three of his four semesters at Wheeling, was a two-time Spring Academic All-MEC honoree and a finalist for the MEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award.

Murray earned First-Team All-Atlantic Region honors from both the D2CCA and the NCBWA this past spring on the diamond. He was a First-Team All-MEC Utility Player for the Cardinals this past season and ranked ninth in the MEC with a .365 batting average and 15th with both a .456 on-base percentage and 10 stolen bases. An extremely versatile player, Murray started games at both corner infield and outfield spots and also served as the team's designated hitter.

Murray is an Exercise Science major and maintains a 3.76 GPA in the classroom. He is a two-time Academic All-MEC honoree and a one-time Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient from the league.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
