BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University’s Trevor Hoosier has been honored as the Mountain East Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after helping seal the Hilltoppers’ 20-19 victory against Glenville State on Saturday afternoon.
Hoosier, a 6-5, 245-pound defensive end from Williamstown, W.Va., led the Black and Gold with 7 total tackles – 5 solo and 2 assists – with a career-high 4 tackles-for-loss, a pair of quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.
The Hilltopper standout’s talents were on full display during the waning minutes of Saturday’s win. With the Pioneers trying to drive into position for a potential game-winning field goal, Hoosier’s third-down QB sack and fourth-down QB pressure forced a turnover on downs with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
Glenville got the ball back on a WLU turnover with just over a minute to play but that possession proved short-lived as Hoosier came sailing in on a blind-side sack, forcing a fumble that was recovered by teammate Jack Davis to clinch the win.
Now tied for second place in the MEC with a 3-1 conference mark, the Hilltoppers head south on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Concord.
