BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Eight West Liberty University football players have earned berths on the 2021 All-Mountain East Conference Football Team. Results of the annual coaches’ voting were released to the media on Tuesday afternoon.
Defensive end Trevor Hoosier was a first-team All-MEC selection while wide receiver Isaiah Robinson, defensive end David Gilcreast and linebacker Maceo Christmas were second-team picks. Honorable mention went to running back Tyler Moler, tight end Kam Kruzelyak, defensive back Elijah Hadley and punter/placekicker Owen Rozanc.
Charleston running back Tyreik McAllister was voted MEC Offensive Player of the Year while Frostburg State lineman Carl Igweh and Notre Dame linebacker Guam Lee shared MEC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Fairmont State quarterback Mike Floria was the Offensive Freshman of the Year with Defensive Player of the Year laurels going to Fairmont linebacker Brocton Blair. Frostburg State’s DeLane Fitzgerald was voted MEC Coach of the Year.
Following are brief capsules on West Liberty’s All-MEC honorees:
TREVOR HUDSON, a 6-5, 245-pound junior from Williamstown, W.Va., was leading the nation in tackles-for-loss when he went down with a late-season injury. Despite missing the final three games, Hudson still ranked among the MEC leaders in TFLs and QB sacks and tied for the team lead in total tackles – a rarity for a defensive lineman.
ISAIAH ROBINSON, a 6-3, 180-pound senior from Washington, Pa., led the Hilltoppers with 45 catches for 632 yards and 8 TDs. Speedy WR ranked among the MEC's Top 10 in catches, receiving yards, receiving yards/game and receiving TDs
DAVID GILCREAST, a 6-3, 230-pound junior from Akron, Ohio, teamed with Hoosier to give WLU one of the region’s most disruptive defensive end tandems. Tied Hoosier for the team lead with 45 tackles, had 12.5 TFLs, a team-high 7.5 QB sacks and ranked among the Top 10 nationally with 4 forced fumbles
MACEO CHRISTMAS, a 6-0, 220-pound sophomore from Fredericksburg, Va., battled through injuries to come on strong down the stretch. Despite missing three full games, he finished with 38 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 5 QB sacks, intercepted a pass and broke up four more.
TYLER MOLER, a 5-11, 195-pound redshirt freshman from Parkersburg, W.Va., emerged as the workhorse of the WLU backfield. Moler ran for 843 yards on 226 carries and ranked among the MEC leaders with four 100-yard rushing games. His 41 carries against Wheeling was the third-highest in the nation this fall.
KAM KRUZELYAK, a 6-2, 220-pound freshman from Pittsburgh, Pa., playmaking tight end finished with 261 receiving yards on 25 catches in his debut season. Had 2 acrobatic TD grabs vs. W.Va. State in season finale.
ELIJAH HADLEY, a 6-2, 175-pound freshman from Trinity, Fla., ball-hawking cornerback led West Liberty and ranked among the MEC's Top 5 with 5 interceptions and 11 passes defensed. His 145 interception return yards ranked No. 2 in the MEC, highlighted by a 60-yard TD runback against Fairmont State
OWEN ROZANC, a 5-11, 180-pound junior, collected his third All-MEC honor and second as a punter. Rozanc averaged 39.0 yards on 59 punts, tied for the MEC lead with 8 punts of 50 yards or more and placed 14 of his boots inside the opponents' 20.
