Wrestling Falls in Road Dual Against Tiffin

Tiffin, OH. – The Wheeling University Wrestling team (1-4, 0-3) hit the road on Saturday for a dual with Tiffin University. The Cardinals sent two wrestlers to the mat and ended up falling in a 48-6 decision. Their lone win came in a forfeit in the 133-pound weight class, but their two matches of the night were tough physical contests.

The first match came at the 157-pound weight class as Brennon Reid took the mat coming off of an 8-3 win on Thursday. He was locked in another tight contest as this one went back and forth throughout the night. The two wrestlers were locked in a tight battle at the end of the second period, but in the end, a takedown and a point of riding time were enough for Reid to fall in an 8-5 decision. For Reid, it was another good showing as he took on some tough competition. The Cardinals would suffer forfeit losses in the next four matches leading up to the 285-pound match.

That would bring Clarouly Meca to the mat to face Tiffin's David Henson coming off a big pinfall on Thursday night. Meca picked up his eighth win of the season and his fifth by pinfall. However, in this match, he would fall behind early on and had trouble playing catch up. The two battled back and forth, but Meca earned just one point in his three rounds of action. In the end, he would fall in a 7-1 decision ending the match for Wheeling. Even though the Cardinals had two losses, it was a good night of competition as the young team continues to grow throughout the season.

The Wheeling University Wrestling team returns to action on Tuesday, February 15th, when they take on rival West Liberty at 6 PM.
