Former USC and NFL linebacker Keith Browner has died at the age of 63, his son, former NFL defensive end Keith Browner Jr., confirmed to TMZ Sports on Tuesday (November 4).
Browner died suddenly in San Leandro, California, which his son said left his family shocked. The former linebacker's cause of death hasn't yet been officially determined but he's believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Keith Jr. told TMZ Sports that his father was dealing with stomach issues, throwing up and feeling fatigue when they spoke Monday (November 3) night. Keith Sr. was planning to go to the hospital Tuesday morning before curling over the side of a chair and collapsing onto the floor next to his girlfriend.
Browner was a two-time Second-team All-Pac-10 selection during his collegiate career at USC before being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 30 overall in the 1984 NFL Draft. The Ohio native would later play for the then-Los Angeles Raiders and San Francisco 49ers in 1987 and then-San Diego Chargers in 1988.
Browner also played for the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts in 1990, as well as the Arena Football League's Pittsburgh Gladiators/Tampa Storm franchise from 1990 to 1993 the CFL's Shreveport Pirates in 1994, the AFL's Charlotte Rage and the Indoor Football league's Arizona Rattlers.
