WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – A trio of Thursday night games and a new non-conference foe highlight West Liberty’s 2022 football schedule.
There’s a new face on the WLU slate for the Sept. 1 season opener as Coach Roger Waialae’s Hilltoppers head north to take on Clarion (Pa.) out of the PSAC in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Kickoff under the lights at the Golden Eagles’ 5,000-seat Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
West Liberty returns to the friendly confines of West Family Stadium on Sept. 8 for their home opener against Mountain East Conference rival Alderson Broaddus. The Thursday night lights come on for the Hilltoppers and Battlers at 6 p.m.
The Hilltoppers start a string of four straight Saturday afternoon games on Sept. 17 with a noon kickoff at perennial NCAA Division II power Notre Dame (Ohio). It’s back home for West Virginia Wesleyan in a 1 p.m. game on the 24th before kicking off the month of October with a 1 p.m. game at Glenville State on Oct. 1. Concord comes to West Family Stadium for a noon kickoff on Oct. 8.
The final Thursday night game of the season finds Coach Waialae’s crew making the drive to Fairmont on Oct. 13 for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Fairmont State.
The annual Homecoming Game is always a highlight of the schedule and this year’s game is no exception. Ohio County rival Wheeling provides the opposition with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at West Family Stadium on Oct. 22.
Back-to-back road games follow with a lengthy trip to UNC Pembroke for a noon kickoff on Oct. 29 followed by a 1 p.m. game at West Virginia State on Nov. 5.
West Liberty brings down the curtain on the 2022 season at home on Nov. 12 against Frostburg State.
