Winter Haven, FL - Legoland Florida Resort has announced plans to lay off 234 employees, with the majority being performers, in a strategic move to strengthen its position in central Florida's competitive theme park industry.
According to a notice filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity on January 24th, the layoffs are scheduled to begin on March 25th and continue through April 7nd.
Approximately 75% of the affected positions are performers, while another 20% are roles related to the entertainment sector of the resort.
The resort, located in Winter Haven, employs about 1,500 non-union workers.
Merlin Entertainments, the parent company of Legoland Florida, stated that this decision aims to allow the resort to operate more flexibly in a competitive market by outsourcing certain entertainment services while maintaining a core in-house team.
The resort features a Lego-themed park, a Peppa Pig-themed park, a water park, and an upcoming aquarium.
Its strategic location between Tampa and Orlando places it in proximity to other major attractions, including Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando.
